Sachuest (Second) Beach is absolutely my favorite place in Middletown (maybe even all of Rhode Island) to photograph proposals. When someone is deciding where to propose in Middletown, RI, it is usually my first suggestion. In case you’ve never been there, Second Beach is a gorgeous white sand beach with an enormous rock jutting out of one end of it. It’s easily one of my favorite places to photograph proposals because the sunset hits it just right. The backdrop is also so clean that it puts my clients and their proposal on center stage with limited visual distractions.

2. Third Beach

Located in Middletown, Third Beach has a peaceful view of the harbor near the mouth of the Sakonnet River. Sandy shores, summer roses and beachy grasses make this east-facing beach a popular choice for proposals. Third Beach tends to be a little quieter than Second Beach.

3. Sachuest Point

Sachuest Point is one of five national wildlife refuges in Rhode Island. It’s also one of our favorite places to walk as a family! This location has restrooms, great parking, and a number of trails through grassy fields leading up to rocky beaches. This location is great for adventurous couples who don’t mind a little bit of walking and/or rock climbing for their proposal.

4. Prescott Farms

I have fond memories of visiting the ducks and swans at the pond at Prescott Farms in Middletown, RI as a child. Prescott Farms is a historic colonial farm with maroon painted wooden buildings, stone walls, a windmill, and a traditional herb and vegetable garden. After the winter, a bank of forsythia bushes creates a beautiful, bright yellow background for spring proposal photos in Rhode Island. Sweet Berry Farm is another one of my favorite places to propose in Middletown, RI. This family-owned, pick-your-own farm is just a short drive from Newport, RI. I love it for family photos, but it is also the perfect location for a rustic farm wedding or proposal. Beautiful open expanses, orchards, and fields of flowers are the views that will provide the graceful, rustic backdrop for any occasion. Sweet Berry Farm is especially great for celebrating after a proposal because it has plenty of delicious local and homemade treats, like ice cream! 6. Spruce Acres

Spruce Acres is a former Christmas tree farm located on the border of Portsmouth and Middletown. Now, it is preserved by the Aquidneck Island Land trust as a place for people to hike. Fir trees, rustic barns, and holly bushes make this location a fun place for a holiday or winter themed proposal in Middletown.

7. Norman Bird Sanctuary

Norman Bird Sanctuary is a non profit wildlife refuge center with over 7 miles of walking trails. It’s most famous point is Hanging Rock, which overlooks Second Beach and Sachuest Point. This is a great place to propose if you like a bit of adventure and a good view! Please note that check-in is required at the Welcome Center before hiking on trails and there is a fee for using the trails.
